The bright watercolor illustrations expand the story, e.g., the statement "The blankets are our cave" appears on a double-page spread with a realistic scene of two youngsters playing at home juxtaposed with the fantasy subterranean setting. The entire narrative consists of eight short sentences and concludes with "What could these boxes be?"
